To Ella
from her father

home at the kindness
of Miss Alice Longfellow.
I saw brave Alice

An 1883 copy of The Complete Poetical Works of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Household Edition, With Illustrations.
Found by Doug of twenty three books, who says:
“Not much of a story to the purchase. It was on a shelf with many other books just like it. I remember planning on stealing a bunch of books, but the shop was run by an affable old-timer and I couldn’t see stealing from him. I’ve had quite the love affair over the years with used books store, even managed one for a year. Despite my earlier kleptomaniac leanings, I made it a rule to never steal from a used books store. I paid only a few bucks for this book.”
